You've already made the wise decision to book a wedding planner. You realize the value of having a designated professional handling the logistical details and coordinating and communicating with vendors, venues, bridal party and family members so you can enjoy your day. What you may not have realized though, is that your wedding planner or day-of coordinator does way more behind-the-scenes than she lets on. Read below to find out some of the things I will do (and have done at real weddings) on the day of so that you (and your mom!) don't have to.
1. Make sure your groom has his boutonniere, and that it's pinned on straight. I'll ensure that the florist has delivered the boutonnieres on time to your groom, and that they're correctly pinned. A crooked tie and boutonniere could almost ruin a lovely photo. My team and I will be on hand as they are getting ready and right before walking down the aisle to make sure they look as handsome as you envision. I take care of all the tiny details so that you can focus on getting ready, trying not to cry with your mom, and drinking mimosas and taking matching-robe selfies with your best friends.
2. Make sure the cake frosting doesn't melt. Is your reception hall the correct temperature? You don't want sliding frosting. When you and your new spouse cut into the delightful goodness, you don't want a melted mess. I'll make sure the baker, the delivery person, and the venue coordinator are all on the same page so your cake is picture perfect and yummy as can be!
3. Fireproof grandma's shoes. No lie, at a recent wedding, a piece of the buffet caught on fire! I was right there, first making sure they're weren't too many people in the space at the time (you know, fire codes and all), second, supervising the self-serve buffet to remove flammable materials as quickly as possible, third, getting more people from the kitchen to help out in the hallway to prevent something catastrophic, and fourth, literally stomping out the fire on the floor instead of grandma. I saved grandma's shoes from the flames, and preventing the sprinklers from going off and a herd of wedding guests stampeding out of the church. The best part? The bride didn't even know what happened! Yeah, that's what I do. All in a day's work.
